I was part of the memory care team, which entails directing activities, such as arts & crafts, doing two active activities throught the residence day, but also if their tired or their behaviour gets bad, then I switch the activity that is one the plan for today, for something they will enjoy and calm down to. I am also in charge of making sure the residence receive their meal and have a clean environment.

I ran activities, such as bingo, arts and crafts, chair exercise, dementia specific activities and therapeutic coloring. In addition, I performed individual activities for residents with cognitive disabilities and others who do not participate in group activities. I also took those who are physically unable, for walks outside and assisted the personal support workers with feeding residents.

As a receptionist, I was responsible for answering the telephone, making meal reservations, booking transportation, managing emergency calls and ensuring residents and guests signed in to ensure evacuation plan accuracy and effectiveness.

I was responsible for archiving 40 years of design material. I also critically evaluated the importance of design blueprints to create an archive from design to completion. In consultation with the design team, I validated my decisions and adjusted where needed. I also researched, on the Internet, competitors’ designs and highlighted why Gabriel Mackinnon is a Canada’s leading lighting designer.

Organized and led games and activities for the general public.
This organization takes groups or people with mental and social disabilities out on Friday nights to allow them to have fun social experiences. I accompanied them and ensured the excursions ran smoothly and that they were safe.
As a receptionist I had many responsibilities, such as:
Opening the residence, organizing the day for all staff and residents, including verifying that all emails had been looked at and forwarding any that had not to the proper manager. I also checked the voicemails and relayed messages appropriately.
Also, I had to problem solve on the spot. I was responsible for security, including verifying visitors.
